Mumbai's railway network is on the cusp of a major transformation with the upcoming Jogeshwari Terminus, a new project under the Amrit Bharat Station Development Scheme. Set to launch in 2025, this terminus is poised to significantly enhance rail operations in the city, offering a crucial link for suburban and long-distance commuters alike. With over 76% of the construction work completed, the new terminus promises to alleviate congestion at Mumbai's historic stations while improving accessibility and punctuality for both local and long-distance trains.

Construction Progress and Project Details

The new Jogeshwari Terminus, located on railway land between Ram Mandir and Jogeshwari stations on the eastern side, is being developed by Giriraj Civil Developers Ltd at an estimated cost of approximately ₹70 crore. The project scope includes the construction of three high-level platforms, consisting of one island platform and one home platform, a G+2 service building, and a G+3 station building. Additionally, three electrified coaching terminus rail lines spanning approximately 4 kilometers are being installed, along with the development of a circulating area and roadwork.

As of now, more than 76.48% of the construction work has been completed, with the financial progress at 34%. The remaining tasks include completing the platforms, road infrastructure, and related improvements. The project is on track for completion by 2025, marking a significant milestone in Mumbai's rail infrastructure development.

Benefits for Commuters

The Jogeshwari Terminus is expected to be a game changer for Mumbai's rail network. Up to 12 long-distance trains currently operating from Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus are likely to be shifted to Jogeshwari, offering easier access for commuters from distant suburbs. This shift is anticipated to enhance the overall punctuality of local trains running between Andheri and Churchgate, as well as improve the management of long-distance services.

Furthermore, the new terminus is strategically located near Metro Line 7, Line 2A, and the upcoming Metro Line 6, providing a seamless connection for Metro passengers traveling along the Western Express Highway. This integration will facilitate easier access to long-distance trains, further enhancing the convenience for Mumbai's commuters.

The upcoming Jogeshwari Terminus represents a significant step forward in Mumbai's ongoing efforts to modernize and expand its rail infrastructure. By easing the load on existing stations and improving connectivity for both suburban and long-distance travelers, this new terminus is set to become a pivotal part of the city's transportation network. As the project nears completion, Mumbai's commuters can look forward to a more efficient and accessible rail experience.
